4th Grade – Earth Schools
Earth Schools is a recycling education program for fourth grade, presented by
the Ecology Action Center and funded by McLean County, Town of Normal, and
City of Bloomington since 1993. By educating children, we strive to increase
recycling in their homes. Earth Schools makes recycling lessons fun while
students learn important educational concepts.
This program is designed to teach students the value of reducing, reusing and
recycling in our community through an interactive and hands-on learning
format. We cover principles of natural resources, energy and resource
conservation. The students practice listening and speaking skills, while
learning science and social studies concepts. Our learning objectives follow
Illinois Learning Standards.
We know many classes have had our trained volunteers or staff members visit
over the last eight years. This school year, we would like to present our
recycling lessons to your classroom.
A trained environmental educator will present Earth Schools from the Ecology
Action Center for a one-hour program. A second presentation that includes
papermaking, worm composting and the recycle factory is also available for
schools that can meet certain logistical requirements.
Scheduling your class is easy. We will accommodate your needs as much as
possible, but we suggest scheduling immediately.
