All Ages
ISTEP Patch
Learn how recycling and energy efficiency can help your environment by
playing games and creating recycled crafts. You can also earn your ISTEP
(Illinois Sustainability Patch). We usually offer this as a one day event in
the fall.
Water Drop
Learn about the importance of protecting and maintaining our watersheds.
Participate in activities designed to demonstrate the water cycle, the effects
of water pollution, and how to identify important characteristics of a
watershed. We offer this as a one day event in the spring.
Daisy Programs
Conservations Kids
Ten ways kids can save the earth. Discuss recycling and conservation of our
precious natural resources. Learn all about the three R’s: Reduce, Reuse,
and Recycle.
Brownie Try-Its
Earth and Sky
Perform experiments to learn about air, water, and soil pollution, and then
build a bird feeder for your backyard.
The Earth is Our Home
Take a walk and observe plants and animals in their natural environments.
Explore the woods and learn what the animals eat and where they live.
Science in Action
Science is a part of our daily lives. Special activities show how you use
science everyday. Learn about the kinds of energy you use and find out ways to
conserve this natural resource.
Junior Badges
Earth Connections
Take a walk to examine the nature around you, learn about trees and how to
identify them, learn about food chains and the importance of animal
adaptations, and perform an experiment to understand the effects of pollution
on the natural world.
Eco-Action
Learn about energy use and how you can help conserve this natural resource.
Learn about air and water pollution. Do a service project to help clean up your
local environment and create a list of personal eco-action goals.
Wildlife
Learn about our Illinois state bird, tree, and flower. Find out about
poisonous plants, learn their importance and how to identify them. Talk about
endangered plants and animals in Illinois and learn how you can help save
them.
Cadet / Senior Interest Award
All About Birds
Learn all about birds (What makes a bird a bird? What resources does a bird
need to survive?) Learn to identify birds by sight and sound and do a
conservation project.
Planet Power
Learn about where energy comes from and how to conserve energy at home. Find
out how a power plant works and build your own battery.
