The Ecology Action Center, as a not-for-profit organization, relies on the
financial support and backing of local organizations, grantors, and business
partners. With the assistance of these organizations, the Ecology Action
Center is able to provide the McLean County with many of the programs and
resources that we offer.
Local Organizations
Center for Sustainable Community
The Center for Sustainable Community is a local organization that provides seminars and programs for teaching people about living in a sustainable fashion. The web site also provides information defining a sustainable lifestyle, experiencing a sustainable community, and various cooperatives that teach people how to live in this closer-to-nature way.
Friends of Kickapoo Creek
Friends of Kickapoo Creek is a conservation organization devoted to promoting stewardship of the Kickapoo Creek in Central Illinois through advocacy, education, and monitoring. The organization works with neighbors and surrounding communities to protect the watershed and its fish species, bird species, and other wildlife habitat of this unique natural resource.
John Wesley Powell Audubon
The JWP Audubon is the Bloomington-Normal chapter of the National Audubon Society. This local group invites speakers and and arranges programs, sponsors educational outreach to the public schools, participates in yearly bird counts and hosts field trips and bird walks.
Mackinaw River Ecosystem Partnership
The mission of the Mackinaw River Ecosystem Partnership is to "preserve and enhance the natural resources of the Mackinaw River watershed through education, good management practices and voluntary cooperation while respecting property owner rights."
Sugar Grove Nature Center
Located in the Funks Grove area, Sugar Grove Nature Center center holds fun workshops for both children and adults and outdoor volunteer work days. The Parklands Foundation
The Parklands Foundation is a local not-for-profit land acquisition and restoration group founded in 1967 to protect Central Illinois native ecosystems. The land owned is in McLean and Woodford Counties with two properties open to the public, the Merwin Preserve and the Lexington Prairie.
Lake Bloomington and Evergreen Lake Watershed Management Planning Groups
The Lake Bloomington and Evergreen Lake Watershed Management Planning groups work to improve and protect the lakes and surrounding watersheds.
