What Kids Are Learning About Energy
After School Program
Ecology Action Center interns visit various After School programs throughout
the year to play games related to energy, resources and recycling with
elementary-age children.
Boy Scouts Energy Badge
We developed a two-hour program that meets the requirements of the Boy Scout
Energy Badge. Please contact the Ecology Action Center to schedule your
meeting at our offices (next to the Normal Public Library). The program fees
are $5 per scout.
Girl Scouts Science in Action Patch
We developed a two-hour program that meets the requirements of the Girl
Scouts Science in Action Patch which incorporates understanding of energy
sources, how electricity is generated, and energy conservation activities.
Please contact the Ecology Action Center to schedule your meeting at our
offices (next to the Normal Public Library). The program fees are $5 per
scout.
Junior High Energy Bike Play
The Energy Bike, on semi-permanent display at the Ecology Action Center, can
be used for educational purposes throughout the community. For the Junior High
Bike Play, we will bring the bike to your school for a ½ hour interactive
presentation on electricity generation, with a focus on renewable and
nonrenewable energy sources. This program meets Illinois Learning Standards.
We recommend no more than 60 students per presentation. We can do multiple
programs while at your school. Thanks to a grant from the Illinois Department
of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, this program is free to McLean County
schools for the 2005-06 school year. After that, program costs will be as
follows:
- (Within Bloomington-Normal) $20 for 1 hour, $10 for each additional hour.
- (Within 30-mile radius of Bloomington-Normal) $30 for 1 hour, $10 for each
additional hour.
